Sometimes, other people’s words are the best words.
This time they are Brene Brown’s.
Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind.
It’s simple, yet seemingly complicated and challenging at the same time.
We have all experienced getting off a call or walking away from a conversation with an icky anxious feeling we can’t quite place.
We have all found ourselves at times talking around the point rather than to it. Or rehearsing the best way to “soften the blow” of a hard conversation believing that by being less direct it will feel kinder on the receiving end.
And we have all at one time mistaken asking loaded questions or vagueness as an attempt at being courteous.
The truth is, no matter how we dress it up, unclear communication never feels kind. And it always leaves everyone involved with that icky, anxious feeling.
But CLEAR, is kind. Always.
